Experience the regional specialities of South Charente. Famous for Cognac, Pineau, and wine in particular, you can arrange a tour or tasting with some of the producers. 

Local produce and delicacies include butter, walnuts, melons, walnut oil, cheese, duck, honey, chicken, Chalais veal, saffron, snails and mushrooms.  Additionally there’s an array of other seasonal fruit, vegetables and produce which grow in the sunny and mild Charente climate. You will find an extensive seasonal selection at the traditional French markets held regularly in towns and villages.

At Easter, La Cornuelle, a triangle shaped type of shortbread, decorated with aniseed sweets features in patisseries.

It is also worth visiting the local shops for specialist produce. You will of course also find Bordeaux wines, cannelés, and Dordogne specialities including foie gras and truffles.
