Holiday Highlights
A Landscape Made for Slowing Down
Step outside and you’re surrounded by quiet country lanes, ideal for walking and cycling. The landscape is quintessential south-west France — rolling hills, pine forests, vineyards, and picturesque villages.
As the seasons change, so does the scenery. In spring, the countryside is fresh and green, dotted with wildflowers, orchids and blossoming trees. Summer brings long, warm days, vibrant sunflower fields, and bustling local markets. In autumn, the vineyards turn golden, and it’s the perfect time to enjoy wine tastings and relaxed outdoor lunches.
For those looking for a little more activity perhaps, canoeing, fishing, horse riding, and golf are all available within a 30-minute drive.

Perfectly Placed for Exploring
Located in southern Charente, near the borders of Dordogne, Charente-Maritime and Gironde, our gîtes are an ideal base for discovering the region. Whether you’re drawn to bustling markets, local vineyards, brocantes, or long, leisurely meals in village squares, there’s something here for every pace of holiday.
Local Highlights
The nearby town of Chalais is home to the impressive Château de Talleyrand, where guided tours bring its history to life. The local market is a traditional Monday feature.
Nature lovers will enjoy a visit to the striking blue lakes of Guizengeard Nature Reserve — perfect for walking, observing wildlife and identifying birds, or a peaceful picnic. Beauvallon is a seasonal lake beach where you can enjoy swimming or a gentle stroll around the lake, surrounded by pine forest.
Around 30 minutes away lies Aubeterre-sur-Dronne, officially listed among the most beautiful villages in France. Its cobbled streets, lively square, riverside setting, and the remarkable Monolithic Church of Saint-Jean — carved directly into the rock — make it a must-visit. Alternatively, you might enjoy kayaking on the Dronne River or relax at the lakeside beach.

Regional Gastronomy
The region is famous for Cognac, Pineau, and Bordeaux wines in particular, and you can arrange a tour or tasting with some of the producers. Local produce and specialities include walnuts, melons, walnut oil, cheese, duck, honey, chicken and Chalais veal. Saffron, mushrooms, and an array of other seasonal fruit, vegetables and produce grow in the sunny and mild Charente climate.
There are weekly traditional markets in surrounding villages and towns which offer a selection of local produce and are worth visiting to soak up the atmosphere, sounds and aromas.

A Region Rich in Culture
Within easy driving distance, you’ll find some of the region’s most celebrated destinations:
- Saint-Émilion (50 mins): A UNESCO-listed medieval town famed for its vineyards and underground catacombs
- Citadel of Blaye (50 mins): A striking fortress overlooking the Gironde estuary
- Cognac (55 mins): Historic town and home of the world-famous spirit
