Food and drink in Angoulême

There are numerous cafés and restaurants dotted around the city.  In the old town the winding cobbled streets are buzzing and vibrant. With colourful tables outside, an array of cuisine is on offer to suit all tastes. The real allure of Angoulême to me is in these parts of the old town. The covered market hall ‘Les Halles’ is an impressive iron and glass structure in the northern part of the ramparts. It is undoubtedly worth a visit for locally grown fresh market garden and farm produce. We stopped for lunch at Le Lieu Dit brasserie recently, the restaurant has a quirky steampunk interior but we dined alfresco on the shaded terrace. The Yellow Spoon is a friendly ‘Salon de thé’, where you can also have coffee or hot chocolate with delightful chocolate ‘spoons’, and purchase loose teas in bulk.
